Two to Ten in Less Than One Year: Appleton Learning
Appleton Learning Revitalizes Education Support Industry with Explosive Growth and Intense Focus on a Modern Approach to Learning
This time last year Appleton Learning, an educational support organization, had only one company-owned branch in Madison, Alabama and one franchise-owned branch in Houston, Texas. Now, with 10 locations open or currently under construction, the company has more than quadrupled.
Their growth, according to Glenn Clayton, founder and President, is attributable to the organization's appeal to the 21st Century Learner. Appleton does this by focusing on individualized learning in a high-tech environment with a modern design flare. If you walk into an Appleton Branch, you'll find a trendy design packed with the latest technology and hip instructors wearing faded Appleton T's. Appleton uses interactive whiteboards, tablets, and every branch is equipped with a telepresence system to allow for collaboration of educators and students from across the country in real time. All of this couldn't be farther from the traditional "tutoring center".
Appleton also pioneered the use of personality profiling in education. The company's proprietary geniuStyle Program uses the first personality test for students to identify how each student learns most effectively. The company enlisted leading psychologists and education specialists to create a program that provided truly individualized learning that fit a student's learning style and personality. Now the program is even being used by some of the most innovative schools around the country to better reach their students.
Clayton started Appleton in college as a tutor himself. Now, the 26 year old Clayton is fulfilling his personal calling to challenge the status quo of education and be a disruptive force in learning. Clayton was recently named one of the top Young Entrepreneurs in the country by BusinessWeek, and Appleton has received numerous national awards and recognitions for its innovative work in education.
"The education support industry is poised for growth," said Clayton. "Parents and students are seeking education support beyond the traditional classroom so they can keep pace with the ever more competitive education requirements of our society," Clayton adds. "College admission is more competitive, scholarships are highly sought after, and students must be prepared for today's competitive work environment. Appleton's growth is a result of demand, a demand for a more modern, personalized approach to learning that yields real results."
In less than two years of franchising, the company has put 50 franchise locations under development. Last December, they announced their partnership with Aristotle Learning to develop 23 franchise locations over a five year development schedule in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio, Texas. The first two branches from that agreement will open in Austin this September. In October, the company will add three more operational franchise branches to their roster as a result of a recent multi-unit franchise agreement to develop 21 additional sites in the Southeast. Details of this latest partnership are set to be released in September. Additionally, Appleton has opened three new company-owned branches in Nashville, TN and Huntsville, AL. Clayton says that the company will continue to open company-owned sites in addition to the franchised locations.
